How is it almost mid January already?! This mild winter (so far) is making me want to move fast forward to Spring, but we must be patient. I can see there are stirrings in the garden; bulbs planted last year are starting to show, and there is a hint of fresh green tips to most flowering shrubs already. From the start of Spring, there will once more be seasonal flowers. Tulips, Ranuculus, Narcissi and Sweet William are some of my favourites. The Butterfly Ranuculus, shown i

Thank you British Flowers

Yesterday, 20 June 2021, at the close of British Flowers Week, I was in the delightful location of Samlesbury Hall, with British flowers for sale. It was a wonderful day, spent chatting to people who were visiting about British flowers and why you should choose them over imported flowers. There was also talk of seasonality, respectful foraging, but mostly about the joy of bringing British and garden flowers into our homes. There were bouquets for sale, and thank you to the l

Happy 10 Year Anniversary FFTF

Today was a momentous day. Ten years ago, Gill Hodgson from Fieldhouse Flowers, Yorkshire, had the spark of an idea that she could grow British flowers as a business, and she set up an organisation allowing like-minded growers to connect with each other as a support network Starting up the organisation, with others joining in over the years, it is today that we celebrate a decade as 'Flowers From The Farm', with over 1000 members nationwide. This year, 2021, we would have he

Flower Farmers Big Weekend 2020

The Flower Farmers Big Weekend is going online. As with so many events this year, the virtual weekend will showcase all those individual events that would have taken place in person had this been a 'normal' year. The Flower Farmers Big Weekend is organised by the Flowers From the Farm community to showcase British grown flowers and the growers who work so hard to bring British blooms to you without air miles, without chemical, and plastic free. Flowers From The Farm is a mul

Supporting Flower Farmers

As a member of the Flowers From The Farm community, I can tell you that its a been huge source of support and inspiration for me. A 'not for profit' organisation: it is a safe community for British flower famers and growers to be united for the purpose of cultivating and promoting the sale of beautiful British flowers in all their magnificent glory, and to share experiences. Within the community, there is always plentiful advice available about growing British flowers in what

The Best of British

We have reached Summer Solstice and moved beyond. It is July already! The longest day of the year signified the start of summer, astronomically, and so a new season is upon us. Arguably, the best of British blooms are now in season, and, although Peonies and Runuculus have finished flowering, the Roses are out, Nigella and Cornflowers are plentiful, and nature provides such glorious scents, textures and colours for us to feast our eyes upon. The fragrance of Stocks (aka Gilly
