From water to wood snake ..

Writer's picture: The Mindful Seasonalist The Mindful Seasonalist

Hello all

Firstly, I wish you well for all that 2025 will bring your way It's a year that hopefully holds much promise for all of us. What that looks like, however, is very much down to each of us individually; the opporunities we invite in and how we respond. All I can advise is to be open hearted and open minded, allowing curiosity to lead you into new adventures and projects.

In TCM*, the start of the year of the wood snake will soon be here (Wednesday 29 January). In a few days, whilst we’re still in winter, we will start to see some glimpses of a slight shift in energy.

Our rest throughout the cold, watery months of deepest December and January has served its purpose. Lightness is breaking through, and with it our thoughts turn to making plans, planting seeds, and setting intentions.

The emergence of the wood snake, these charming ‘little dragons’ of the Chinese New Year also bring with it an element of creativity.

Some workshop dates will soon appear, starting on Saturday 29 March with a class at Brinscall Hall @practicalphilosophynw

I've named her ‘The Wild Bergamot Mother’ and it will be a hand-tied bouquet workshop with all the scents of the season, and also an opportunity to learn about the benefits of Wild Bergamot both as a perennial plant and an essential oil for personal use in Springtime. I'm introducing blended workshops into my business to include all those things I love dearly; English field and garden flowers, plants and herbs, and essential oils. This workshop will, I hope, become something of a seasonal offering and I'm am really hoping to share what I know about each in a considered way that we can all benefit from.

I'll post more details shortly, but do let me know if this sounds like your thing and I’ll ensure you hear about it soonest. Thank you to those who have been in touch already. I have your details and I will be in touch.

For now, I’m enjoying the scented delights of Paperwhite Narcissus in a bowl of winter greens with the slender, snaking stems of Muehlenbeckia (Salim root) both above and below the waterline. These are from Cornwall, available now and I'm grateful to my supplier for these beautiful seasonal treasures.

So, here they are: Cornish white Narcissi and Tanecetum on a bed of Eucalyptus (Thank you @highcroftnurseries ) in water with a coil of Salim root as the floral mechanic (instead of chickenwire) and as added texture above.

I hope you like them.
